About The Song
Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, the husband-and-wife songwriters, penned this song, particularly for the Everly Brothers. Together, this talented couple came up with a lot of big hits for the duo and other artists. “Wake Up Little Susie” and “All I Have To Do Is Dream” are among the songs they wrote. Whereas, the Bryants were mainly credited to be the first songwriters to come to Nashville and make a living only by writing songs.
In an interview with Country Music People in 1981, Boudleaux actually revealed:
“I wrote ‘Bye Bye Love’ while traveling home one night. Felice was driving down the highway and I got the first verse and chorus right down there. I always make sure I have a pen and paper in the car for these occasions.”
In addition, he said:
“We really believed in the song and were disappointed when so many people turned it down. They said it was unsuitable, [and] some even asked if we have anything better!”
Rejected by 30 other artists, “Bye, Bye Love” became the song that skyrocketed the career of the Everly Brothers — Phil and Don — into the national charts. To date, it remains as their best-known hit ever.
This song blasted the charts in different music genres in 1957. Also, this smash hit earned massive success as a country song reaching number 1 in the same year. In fact, the song also placed 210th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”
Not only were the Everly Brothers among the most important and best early rock & roll stars but also, they were one of the greatest rockers of any era. As a matter of fact, they set standards which are unmatched by any other artists to date. Their style was distinct with close, two-part harmonies and infused early rock & roll with some of the best elements of country and pop music.

Lyric
Bye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness
I think I’m-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love
Bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness
I feel like I could die
Bye bye my love goodbyeThere goes my baby with-a someone new
She sure looks happy, I sure am blue
She was my baby till he stepped in
Goodbye to romance that might have beenBye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness
I think I’m-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love
Bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness
I feel like I could die
Bye bye my love goodbyeI’m-a through with romance, I’m a-through with love
I’m through with a-countin’ the stars above
And here’s the reason that I’m so free
My lovin’ baby is through with meBye bye love
Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness
I think I’m-a gonna cry-y
Bye bye love
Bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness
I feel like I could die
Bye bye my love goodbyeBye bye my love goodbye
