Elvis Presley – Wear My Ring Around Your Neck

About The Song

– February 1, 1958 Radio Recorders, Hollywood, California

Elvis begins his last scheduled recording session prior to induction. Elvis works from 10.00am to 7.00pm but gets nowhere with ‘My Wish Came True’ then spend forty-eight takes on ‘Doncha Think It’s Time’ trying to get a satisfactory take. Dissatisfied with that he then tried Hank William’s classic ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’ but again he is not satisfied with the result. The last song of the day is ‘Wear My Ring Around Your Neck’, but Elvis struggles to cut what is intended to be the A side of his next single.

– The song peaked at #2 in the Billboard 100 in 1958. The song was written by Bert Carroll and Russell Moody and released April. 1, 1958. This was at the period where everything Elvis touched turned to gold. I remember going to my cousin’s home and listening to an Elvis compilation of his 50s songs in the mid-70s when I was around 8-9.

– In this song, Presley wants his girlfriend to wear his ring around her neck. Of course, the ring would be on a chain…as was the custom in the 1950s to signify they are going steady. Hope you enjoyed the song and have a great day.

Lyric

Let’s sing along with the lyrics!

Won’t you wear my ring around your neck
To tell the world I’m yours by heck
Let them see your love for me
And let them see by the ring around your neck

Won’t you wear my ring around your neck
To tell the world I’m yours by heck
Let them know I love you so
And let them know by the ring around your neck

Well they say that going steady is not the proper thing
They say that we’re too young to know the meaning of a ring
I only know that I love you and that you love me too
So darling please do what I ask of you

Won’t you wear my ring around your neck
To tell the world I’m yours by heck
Let them see your love for me
And let them see by the ring around your neck

Well they say that going steady is not the proper thing
They say that we’re too young to know the meaning of a ring
I only know that I love you and that you love me too
So darling this is what I beg of you

Won’t you wear my ring around your neck
To tell the world I’m yours by heck
Let them know I love you so
And let them know by the ring around your neck
And let them know by the ring around your neck
And let them know by the ring around your neck
Oh yeah

Don’t leave me now
Now that I need you
How blue and lonely I’d be
If you should say we’re through

Don’t break my heart
This heart that loves you
They’ll just be nothing for me
If you should leave me now
(Don’t leave me now)

What good is dreamin’
If I must dream all alone by myself
Without you darling
My arms would gather dust
Like a book on a shelf

Come to these arms
These arms that need you
Don’t close your eyes to my plea
Don’t leave me now

Don’t close your eyes to my plea
Don’t you leave me now
(Don’t you leave me now)
